2017 Letters to the editor stock

The subject of recreational gun use in rural areas that are close to a residential area really hit a nerve with me. I am an advocate of people's right to bear arms and practice such at shooting ranges. However, living near private property, which is rural, and listening to their shotguns going off at 8:30 a.m. on a Sunday is unacceptable.

Not only do I not like the sound of a gun in such close proximity to a subdivision, I also hate to think an innocent animal just lost its life. We have many deer in the woods that adjoins both the private property and our subdivision. The shooting sounds occur in/near the woods. I wish all people would consider how such actions may impact a neighbor before choosing to do the activity.

There are children in our neighborhood who do not need to grow up numb to the sound of shotguns. There should be laws governing how many feet a shooter can be to a populated area to be allowed to shoot.
