It is said that timing is everything. This certainly is true in regard to a recent screed in a letter to the editor on The Times opinion page. It concluded the Democrats cannot be blamed if the Republicans do not pass a funding bill inasmuch as they control both houses.
Ironically, on the page preceding his letter was a story about the possible government shutdown, stating "Democrats' votes are needed to advance the stopgap measure through the Senate ..."
There have been so many vacuous letters to the editor since Donald Trump has been elected president, it brings to mind a quote by Thomas Jefferson:
"Democracy demands an educated and informed electorate."
