2017 Letters to the editor stock

I am appalled that our Congress is attacking Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg, when the 2016 elections were not simply swayed by Facebook ads. There were a variety of tools used to influence our nation’s perspective and behavior, including the news agencies, Twitter and Google/Yahoo.

Attacking Facebook, which is truly an independent communications tool, is similar to demanding that we ban all guns because they kill people.

I value free speech and the 2nd Amendment, as both enable me to protect myself and my family. Facebook is merely a tool, similar to guns.

Rather than eliminate the tool, let's focus who or what was trying to manipulate our free speech and address that. If individuals that are not sovereign to our nation are trying to undermine our democracy via security breeches/hacking and social media, let's pass laws to protect our freedoms, notlimit them.
