2017 Letters to the editor stock

I look around and see why Lansing, Illinois has fallen apart. We elect the same people to run Lansing for the last 20 years — a business manager who was mayor, a mayor who was clerk for our business manager.

We have streets that are a mess and need repairs. Businesses are leaving because of the high property taxes caused by us building a half dozen new schools with lower enrollment.

We do have a new music venue where the perfect location for our village hall would have been at half the cost. But this is what you get when the same people run Lansing, and no one else cares.

When I first moved here 46 years ago, we had a barber who ran Lansing part time, and he did a lot better job.

Gary Weber, Lansing
