2017 Letters to the editor stock

During his State of the City address, Portage Mayor James Snyder told the crowd that 2018 would be the “Year of Courage." The mayor went on to recognize the mother and daughter who, last month, tackled to the ground a suspect in the theft of the daughter’s car earlier in the day.

“There are just some cases we couldn’t solve with the courage and tenacity of the people of Portage,” Snyder said.

These comments lack a sense of responsibility and encourages citizens to take the law into their own hands.

We encourage Police Chief Troy Williams to rebut the mayor’s irresponsible comments because we don’t expect Mayor Snyder to ever admit to wrongdoing.
