2017 Letters to the editor stock

To the nurse who feels children are not safe at our schools, why are there armed security in jewelry stores, Hollywood, Capitol Hill, banks, credit unions, liquor stores, etc., and hardly any protecting our children in schools from lunatics/mentally ill people who don't care about "gun-free zones."

The FBI was notified of concerns about the school shooter a month ago, plus other warnings, but nothing was done about it.

We have hundreds of laws not being enforced by lax judges who allow criminals back on the streets not too long after they get sentenced with very lax sentencing, read the papers about criminals getting out in a year or two who should have been in for decades.

Get educated on federal gun laws. In Indiana if you buy from a legal gun dealer you need to go through a national background check, etc. The guns in Chicago are mostly stolen or bought by straw purchasers who violate many federal laws.

Chicago has some of the strongest gun laws in the nation, yet more killings due to drugs, gangs, etc.

Why no mass protests there by concerned citizens like yourself?

We don't need an assault weapons ban. How about a ban on the societal problems that led to all this in the past 50 years or so?
