More About Us
Deschamps Eye Care (DEC) is celebrating 30 years of serving their patients’ eye care requirements with up-to-date technology in a caring environment. They consistently invest in proven state-of-the-art technology and equipment to provide their patients with the latest advances in eye health care. Eldi Deschamps, M.D., founder and owner of the practice, is a board certified ophthalmologist who specializes in no-stitch cataract surgery and various refractive surgery procedures (such as LASIK, PRK, LASEK, and Implantable Collamer Lens Implants).
DEC patients enjoy the convenience of an on-site, outpatient surgery center (NovaMed Surgery Center) just steps from the main office where most of the eye surgeries are done. Dr. Deschamps also has surgical privileges at St. Anthony Hospital in Crown Point.
NovaMed Surgery Center has consistently been awarded AAAHC accreditation since opening, which represents exceeding standards of care in the industry. NovaMed Surgery Center has various types of lasers which are onsite to provide procedures to help manage glaucoma, secondary cataracts and correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. One surgical suite is dedicated to cataract surgery and other miscellaneous eye surgeries, and another is devoted to laser vision correction. There are two types of excimer lasers available for laser vision correction depending on a patient’s refractive prescription. Cataract patients now have various types of intra-ocular lens implants (IOL) available to them such as Toric IOLs to correct astigmatism and multi-focal IOLs to help reduce their dependence on eye glasses altogether after cataract surgery.
Dr. Deschamps works closely with area optometrists in co-managing their patients’ post-operative care for their surgical procedures. The clinic also offers Northwest Indiana optometrists with an annual day-long continuing education seminar to help keep them updated with recent scientific studies, discoveries, and medical practices in their field.
Douglas Van Putten, M.D., F.A.C.S. is on staff at DEC bi-monthly to meet patients’ needs regarding ophthalmic, plastic, reconstructive, and cosmetic surgery of the eyes, face, and neck. Examinations and surgery are done at the Merrillville location.
DEC Optometrist Dr. John Tanner and Dr. Barbara Fluder are available for appointments as well and DEC offers a wide range of services to non-surgical patients, such as eye examinations to test for and manage glaucoma, cataracts, diabetes, and macular degeneration. Also available are services to treat eye infections and injuries, contact lens and glasses fittings, and well vision examinations. Elite Optical is on-site to serve patients’ eyeglass and contact lens needs. In addition, Carol Pundy, DEC audiologist, offers free hearing evaluations at patients’ convenience.
DEC enjoys the knowledge that comes with years of experience in practice. They have been helping residents of Northwest Indiana keep and maintain their vision by providing the very best eye care through their compassionate and caring staff.
