St. Francis de Sales Pioneers

Last year's record: 2-7

Head coach: Wendell Walton, 0-0 at school and overall

Assisant coaches: Jermel Radcliffe, Aaron Mitchel

Starters back: 2 (1 on offense, 1 on defense)

Top offensive players: Willie Orange, Sr., WR; Eric Matthews, Fr., QB/RB/WR

Top defensive player: Kenneth Catron, Sr., DB

Outlook for season: First-year coach Wendell Walton will have his hands full, but is up to the challenge of rebuilding the Pioneers program. Numbers and consistency will be the Pioneers' main concern, but Walton is confident his team can turn some heads this season. With school beginning this week, the number of players participating at practice should increase and help stabilize the program. Orange is a preseason all-area pick at wide receiver and will be able to stretch opposing defenses. Freshman Matthews will be a spark for the Pioneer offense at running back, quarterback, and wide receiver.

Quote: "Basically it's a numbers deal right now. We're trying to build the program from the ground floor. We're going to be young, but I don't see why we can't do OK this year. Wins and losses, I'm not really looking at. I'm looking at our program to get better. We want to initiate this so it will carry out over years to come." !~ Wendell Walton
