Col. John Wheeler
Col. John Wheeler, of Crown Point, died in the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863 when a bullet struck him in the head near a location of the battlefield known as Rose Woods. A monument dedicated to Wheeler's regiment, the 20th Indiana, still stands near Rose Woods and bears Wheeler's name.
