CEDAR LAKE | The town has issued a boil order for businesses along portions of 133rd Avenue and Industrial Drive, with the restriction expected to last through Monday.
East Chicago was without water, but not without hope
East Chicago city crews were notified in the early hours of the morning Dec. 11 that a 24-inch water main had collapsed near Columbus Drive and Alder Street. Water department crews went out to assess the problem and realized it was more severe than anticipated.

EAST CHICAGO | Water for drinking and cooking still must be boiled before being consumed, but city officials said Wednesday that "encouraging" preliminary water tests suggest a return to normalcy could be on the horizon.
