HAMMOND | A total of 87 chess teams in the sixth grade and under section of the State of Indiana gathered at five different Regionals for an opportunity to be selected as one of the 34 teams to meet at the State Team Finals held in Terre Haute on March 26.

Teams from Munster and Hammond schools fared well at the Indiana State All Grades Chess Tournament, held last month in Fort Wayne. The best scholastic chess players in the state gathered at Canterbury High School to compete in 13 different grade levels, kindergarten through grade 12.
