I had a nice chat with Santa Claus during Sunday morning’s Knights of Columbus breakfast at St. Columba in Chicago’s Hegewisch neighborhood.
Driving home through downtown Hegewisch the other night, I couldn’t help but notice how beautiful it looked with snow on the ground. I saw Christmas lights on the Baltimore Avenue streetlights and painted winter scenes on the grocery store windows.

During our morning walk on Monday, my son and I stopped at the Hegewisch branch of the Chicago Public Library. There was a special story time going on and the kids were loving it as the storyteller told of a ghost chase. The attendees ran in place, laughed and clapped along with her.

While driving through Lansing and Hegewisch this weekend, I spotted members of different Knights of Columbus groups handing out Tootsie Rolls and collecting donations. They walked along the cars at popular intersections or stood in front of busy stores, spending their free time to help others.
