CHICAGO | Same-gender couples from the Southeast Side, surrounding suburbs and Northwest Indiana were among the 258 couples who were issued marriage licenses during the first week the Cook County clerk’s office could issue them.
CHICAGO | More than 80 same-sex couples — including couples from Gary and DeMotte — have gotten marriage licenses in Cook County, including some from other Illinois counties who apparently didn't want to wait until gay marriage becomes legal statewide on June 1.

CHICAGO | The conservative Illinois Family Institute and two suburban Chicago churches are seeking a judge's permission to help defend the state's ban on gay marriage, saying they should be able to intervene in a lawsuit filed by 25 gay and lesbian couples who want to overturn the 16-year-old law.
