As the school year gets underway, thousands of buses carrying tens of thousands of students will begin flooding the streets of Northwest Indiana and south suburban Chicago.
Last year, crossing guards worked 2.5 hours a day. School was ending. This was the first year we could not collect unemployment, and it hurt a lot of families. Our hours got cut to 1.5 per day.
