GARY | A CSX freight train derailed Monday morning in Gary, closing crossings near 9th Avenue from Chase to Madison streets, police said.

About 35 cars in a 104-car Canadian National freight train derailed early Saturday near the Broadway entrance to U.S. Steel. Some of the cars were carrying hazardous waste, but no leaks or spills were reported.
