Southland Prevention Coalition Vice President Robert Thompson presented Superintendent Jayne E. Purcell with a Community Service Award in appreciation for her outstanding dedication and service "above and beyond the call of duty."
Southland Prevention Coalition Vice President Robert Thompson also presented School Board Secretary James E. Bendell with a Community Service Award for his service to and support of the Southland Prevention Coalition.

Teachers Marilyn Hirsch and Connie Cullen reported 81 percent of students made a year or more of gains in math during a trial of the Singapore math program last year at Franklin School in Dolton.

Rachel Caldwell, a seventh-grader at Roosevelt Junior High School in Dolton, participated in the Region 9 Science Fair on March 9 and qualified to compete at this year's State Science Fair which will take place at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.
