Dozier Allen Jr
GARY | Many dark corners of local government in Lake County have been home to corrupt public officials over the years, and Calumet Township is no exception.
When the U.S. Supreme Court last month ruled the federal "honest services" law could be applied only to cases of bribery and kickbacks, local defense lawyers celebrated the high court's narrow interpretation of the statute in hopes it would help their clients.
Former eight-term Calumet Township Trustee Dozier Allen Jr. and three of his former deputy trustees were indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday for allegedly making illegal payments to themselves out of a Department of Workforce Development grant.
