VALPARAISO | Two city pathway projects got action from the Board of Public Works and Safety on Friday.
VALPARAISO | The gold (painted) shovels flashed in the Wednesday afternoon sun for the groundbreaking of Lakes of Valparaiso, the $100 million development planned by Don Weiss just east of Ind. 49 between Vale Park Road and Evans Avenue.
VALPARAISO | H & G Underground, of LaPorte, is the apparent low bidder for the portion of the Evans Avenue pathway project from Roosevelt Road to the Calvary Church.
VALPARAISO | Valparaiso will open bids Friday for construction of a 450-foot section of the Evans Avenue pathway from Roosevelt Road to the Calvary Church entrance.
VALPARAISO | The city's Utilities Department will begin flushing water mains on the north side on Monday and will continue for about the next eight weeks.
VALPARAISO | The city and developer Don Weiss have agreed to a plan for Valparaiso to pay for a road to serve the business park portion of Weiss' development between Evans Avenue and Vale Park Road.
VALPARAISO | The city liked a resident's suggestion for a left-turn arrow on northbound Calumet Avenue at Evans Avenue so much it decided to install arrows on the southbound side, too.
The reconfiguration of Calumet Avenue between the railroad tracks and Evans Avenue has caused terrible traffic backups and delays after the train goes through. Now there's word of adding turn signals to the lights that will delay traffic even more.
VALPARAISO | Bring on the rain!
VALPARAISO | Reconstruction of Calumet Avenue between the Canadian National railroad tracks and Evans Avenue is expected to begin by mid-June.
VALPARAISO | One of the last major vacant properties in Valparaiso is the subject of a study to determine the best way to deal with drainage issues so it could be developed.
VALPARAISO | The city will seek bids next month for improvements to North Calumet Avenue between the Canadian National railroad tracks and Evans Avenue.
VALPARAISO | When you have more projects to do than you can afford, the first thing you do is prioritize what needs to be done.
VALPARAISO | The city is about to launch a major offensive in Operation Thunderstruck, the war against stormwater flooding.
VALPARAISO | The names stay pretty much the same. Only the order in which they appear changes each year for Valparaiso's list of the 10 most dangerous intersections.
VALPARAISO | It was a night for receiving awards and spending money at Monday's City Council meeting.
VALPARAISO | The city plans to act as quickly as possible to take advantage of the low interest rates by refinancing two bond issues for the Valparaiso Street project.
VALPARAISO | The Evans Avenue reconstruction project is short, but it's big enough that Valparaiso Deputy Engineering Director Adam McAlpine is considering holding a ribbon cutting ceremony for it.
VALPARAISO | The city's Board of Public Works and Safety approved a contract Thursday for surveying work needed to design improvements for Calumet Avenue between the Canadian National tracks and Evans Avenue.
