Being 40 percent efficient may not sound great in a classroom, but it's a decent standard in the world of coal-fired power plants.
Nearly half of Indiana coal-fired power plants are being called "top environmental offenders" in a report the NAACP released Wednesday, and the State Line Energy plant in Hammond was rated as the fifth-worst in the nation.
The State Line Energy power plant will shut down at the end of next year rather than be retrofitted with pollution control equipment.
