HAMMOND | Crews are clearing trees from Gibson Woods Nature Preserve in Hammond in an effort to boost the native environment there, a county official said.
HAMMOND | Three brave Cub Scouts foraged out in single-digit weather on Saturday to participate in a hike sponsored by Pack 773 of the East Side at Gibson Woods Nature Preserve in Hammond.
Over the years, people have taken so much from the environment, and replaced native plants with more exotic species. The goal of the Gibson Woods Wild Ones group is to bring back the balance and educate people about the benefits of native plants.
The Gibson Woods Wild Ones will host their third Biennial Native Plant Symposium from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 25 at Villa Cesare in Schererville. The schedule of speakers and events is so full it starts at 7 a.m.–a bit early for most of us, but well worth setting the alarm on a Saturday.
