Indiana likes to refer to itself as the "Crossroads of America." That's true, but not in the sense the Hoosier Holy Land likes to believe.
INDIANAPOLIS | The Indiana Port Commission didn't cut a check Thursday after Portage Mayor James Snyder argued the Port of Indiana should pay for city-provided police and fire service, but they didn't rule out doing it someday.
The old saying of "you can't get something for nothing" certainly seems to apply to the case of emergency services provided by Portage to the Port of Indiana.
