More than 600 miles from his Crown Point home, Col. John Wheeler maneuvered his horse along the battle lines of the 20th Indiana Infantry, imploring his men to hold their ground against a wicked barrage of Confederate gunfire.
Lt. John Luther, of Crown Point, served as adjutant in the 20th Indiana Infantry during the Civil War. He survived the war and became vice president of the First National Bank of Crown Point later in life.
A Crown Point colonel leads his regiment -- many of them hometown boys -- in a desperate battle for the future of his country, ultimately paying with his life.
