The Hammond Fire Department will host its annual Fire Prevention Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Central Fire Station on Calumet Avenue. Fire station tours, DJ music, a Moon Walk and many raffles will be included.
Summer may be officially over, but the city of Hammond continues to offer activities for all ages in September.

Join the Hammond Fire Department for an Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Central Fire Station, 6110 Calumet Ave. Lots of different activities are planned for children as all ages learn about fire safety. Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 7 to 13.
As our summer season comes to a close, I look back and think of Hammond’s great summer events and how much fun we had at the 2012 Festival of the Lakes, our inaugural Triple Play Concert Series, the inaugural WHAM midnight bike ride, and all the fun events at the Pavilion at Wolf Lake.
Hammond starts August off with a WHAM, the Whiting/Hammond After Midnight bike ride that will be Saturday. Enjoy a fun, relaxing 25-mile ride through Hammond and Whiting, celebrating many of the two communities’ new bike paths.
Hammond’s ninth annual Festival of the Lakes, a celebration that begins July 18 and runs through July 22, will once again bring fun and entertainment to all who attend with music, food, carnival rides and numerous other activities.
