During November, I like to remind our readers about this very special month of giving. We celebrate Thanksgiving, a time for friends and family to gather and give thanks for so many blessings. We are so fortunate to live in a community where so much good is happening for the benefit of all.
“Tell me, and I’ll forget. Show me, and I may not remember. Involve me and I’ll understand.”
“Some people think they are in community, but they are only in proximity. True community requires commitment and openness. It is a willingness to extend yourself to encounter and know the other.”
Federal lawmakers are heading into an intense period of political and policy debate regarding the budget, deficit reduction and tax reform. There is growing concern that elected officials are seriously considering unraveling a 100-year-old American tradition that encourages charitable giving…
“A leader has the vision and conviction that a dream can be achieved. A leader inspires the power and energy to get it done.”
“A generation that acquires knowledge without ever understanding how that knowledge can benefit the community is a generation that is not learning what it means to be citizens in a democracy.”
“Action springs not from thought, but from a readiness for responsibility.”
“Where there is not community, trust, respect, ethical behavior are difficult for the young to learn and for the old to maintain.”
“One day, all children in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education.”
“Help one another; there’s no time like the present and no present like the time.”
“Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible..”
Between the dark and the daylight, When the night is beginning to lower,
"Giving should be entered into in just the same careful way as investing. . .Giving is investing."
“In the quiet hours when we are alone and there is nobody to tell us what fine fellows we are, we come sometimes upon a moment in which we wonder, not how much money we are earning, nor how famous we have become, but what good we are doing.”
“Community is like a ship; everyone ought to be prepared to take the helm.
“Because it’s summer and the memories are just waiting to happen.”
“. . .If you want anything said, ask a man. If you want anything done, ask a woman.”
"We have a hunger of the mind which asks for knowledge of all around us, and the more we gain, the more is our desire; the more we see, the more we are capable of seeing."
"Christmas is a necessity. There has to be at least one day of the year to remind us that we're here for something else besides ourselves."
"The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit."
