LANSING | Residents on both sides of the state line will have reason to celebrate at 3 p.m. Sunday when a marker is revealed to officially recognize the connection of Illinois and Indiana via the Pennsy Greenway bike trail.

At the end of April, Schererville and its Park Board hosted the Pennsy Greenway Trail groundbreaking. Just six months later, almost everyone present that day watched Oct. 15 as Town Council President Hal Slager cut the yellow ribbon and officially opened the bike trail.
Bikers take off on a 15-mile ride as a portion of the Pennsy Greenway Trail is officially opened Saturday during a ceremony in Schererville. The new part of the trail is the first of many phases that will eventually connect communities from Illinois to LaPorte County.
