DYER | Federal labor officials are fining a Dyer-based company $195,570 for six safety violations inspectors found at an Illinois plant last year, but the business is appealing.
So far this year, the state has fined eight Northwest Indiana businesses for safety violations, a fourfold increase over 2012.
The U.S. Department of Labor said Tuesday a revised workplace safety standard for hazard communication will help save workers' lives and result in productivity gains for domestic businesses.
A Gary-based construction company said its employees have worked more than 15 million hours at the BP Whiting Refinery without an accident that requires workers to take time off to recover.
