VALPARAISO | Porter County is cracking down on what appears to be a growing trend of improperly and illegally installed septic systems.
VALPARAISO | A change in plans for Burlington Beach Road was welcome news for 11 residents at Tuesday's Redevelopment Commission meeting.
We in Northwest Indiana have polluted water. I'm not just talking about any kind of pollution; I'm talking about Escherichia coli. Yes, E. coli, otherwise known as bacteria, pathogens, indicators and other names I can't mention in a family paper.
Local leaders on Thursday agreed to create a task force to examine options for creating a regional sewer district for Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties to regulate private septic systems.
A lack of regulations for septic systems could be partly to blame for E. coli contamination in local waters, and officials are discussing how to solve the problem.
