U.S. Steel will pay $58 million to settle a lawsuit that alleges domestic steelmakers conspired to fix prices nearly a decade ago.
United States Steel Corp. posted another loss in the second quarter because of sluggish demand, and declines in flat-rolled shipments and line pipe prices.
Soft demand and overcapacity issues have been nagging the steel industry, Berlin Metals president Roy Berlin said.
The steel industry continues to struggle despite rising orders from automakers, who have added third shifts and new employees to keep pace with their turbocharged sales.
