INDIANAPOLIS | The Federal Emergency Management Agency has rejected Gov. Mike Pence's request for funds to cover a portion of the snow removal and public safety expenses incurred by 49 Indiana counties — including Lake, LaPorte, Newton and Jasper — during the Jan. 5-9 severe winter storm.
A section of Ind. 8 east of Ind. 49 just past County Road 300 East was completly shutdown Sunday by the storm and the drifting snow, trapping drivers that tried to drive their vehicles down the highway.
Bill Schott braves the cold and snow to clear his driveway Monday morning in Kouts. More than 10 inches of snow and brutal low temperatures ripped into the region Sunday and Monday. Tuesday's high may reach 2 degrees.
