Fossilized remnants of sea creatures that lived 450 million years ago are preserved in rocks extracted from Thornton Quarry. Early settlers, including Gurdon Hubbard, established the first limestone mines in Thornton. Now, Interstate 80 towers 500 feet above the quarry floor.
