Nick Yakovatz was one of the first Standard Oil Refinery employees to work on the company's new IBM computers in the 1950's, and invested his earnings well, allowing him to leave an estate that benefits a number of charities, including Highland Dollars for Scholars.
East Chicago natives Nancy and Mary Yakovatz worked for Standard Oil Refinery and Inland Steel, respectively, and their names are now on a Highland Dollars for Scholars scholarship fund.
