Cleveland Melvin scored 20 points and Brandon Young added 19 as DePaul pulled away in the second half for an 80-71 win over host Milwaukee on Tuesday.

It was the first road win of the season for the Blue Demons (3-1). The Panthers (4-2), who had won four straight, lost their home opener.

Both teams were looking to build early season momentum after finishing in last place last season in their respective conferences, DePaul in the Big East and Milwaukee in the Horizon.

The first half was tight, but DePaul gradually built a lead in the second half, going up 63-49 on a dunk by guard Charles McKinney with just over seven minutes remaining. Milwaukee would get to within six, at 73-67 with just over a minute left when Matt Tiby, who led Milwaukee with 20 points, made a layup.

But DePaul made its free throws down the stretch to prevail.

Loyola Chicago 83, Rockhurst 65: Milton Doyle was 10-of-13 from the floor, including a trio of 3-pointers, for a career-high 24 points to lead Loyola to a victory over Rockhurst.

Doyle got a lot of help from Christian Thomas, who chipped in 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Doyle hit a 3-pointer and a jumper to get Loyola (2-2) out to a quick 5-0 lead, which they never relinquished. They were ahead 10-0 when Kareem Amendu hit a jumper in the paint for Rockhurst's initial score at the 16:17 mark.

Another triple by Doyle stretched the lead to 26-9 with 9:33 remaining in the first period. The Ramblers held a 41-30 advantage at the half. The Ramblers were 15-of-28 from the field in the first half and improved to 17-of-30 in the second to finish with 55.2% shooting.

Loyola outrebounded Rockhurst (2-2) 38 to 22.

Austin Peay 72, Southern Illinois 70: Will Triggs had 17 points and Travis Betran scored four points down the stretch to help Austin Peay defeat Southern Illinois.

Betran put Austin Peay (2-1) up 70-68 with a jumper with 1:02 to play, then sank two free throws to hold off the Salukis. Chris Horton blocked Anthony Beane's jumper with 1 second to go to seal the win.

Betran scored 16 points for the Governors, including two 3-pointers, and Demarius Smith scored 12 points. Horton had a game-high seven blocks.

Desmar Jackson led Southern Illinois (0-3) with 27 points and 10 rebounds, Jalen Pendleton had 13 points and Beane added 10.

Austin Peay led 35-32 at halftime and led by as much as 17 points in the second period, but the Salukis closed, sparked by Jackson and Beane and a layup by Sean O'Brien that made it a two-point game with 13 seconds to play.
