Victor Oladipo scored a career-high 23 points to help No. 20 Indiana defeat Purdue 78-61 on Saturday night and break a five-game losing streak to its in-state rival.

Cody Zeller had 16 points and eight rebounds and freshman Remy Abell scored a season-best 13 points for the Hoosiers (18-6, 6-6 Big Ten). Verdell Jones III, one of Indiana's primary ballhandlers, missed the game with a shoulder injury.

The Hoosiers had lost five of their previous seven games, but claimed just their fourth road win of the season.

Robbie Hummel, a Valparaiso graduate, had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Purdue. The senior came up limping after he went to the ground in the final minutes, but he played through it. Hummel missed last season with a torn ACL in his right knee. D.J. Byrd scored 15 points and Kelsey Barlow added 12 for the Boilermakers (15-8, 5-5).

No. 3 Ohio State 58, No. 19 Wisconsin 52: Jared Sullinger scored 24 points, and William Buford hit a critical 3-pointer down the stretch, leading Ohio State (20-3, 8-2 Big Ten) to the victory. Ryan Evans scored 14 points for the Badgers (18-6, 7-4).

Notre Dame 76, No. 15 Marquette 59: Freshman Pat Connaughton had 23 points and 11 rebounds, and Notre Dame made 11 3-pointers in the victory.

Detroit 65, Butler 61: Ray McCallum scored 20 points to lead Detroit past Butler. Eli Holman had 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds and three blocked shots for the Titans.

Southern Illinois 53, Evansville 52: Jeff Early stole the ball and sank a free throw with 2 seconds left, sending Southern Illinois to a victory over Evansville. Early led the Salukis (8-16, 5-8 Missouri Valley) with 14 points. Colt Ryan scored 12 points and Kenny Harris 10 for the Purple Aces (11-12, 6-7).

Miami (Ohio) 59, Ball State 53: Freshman Brian Sullivan came off the bench to score 18 points as Miami (7-14, 3-6 Mid-American) repelled a late charge to beat Ball State. Bowling Green 65, Northern Illinois 40: Jordon Crawford scored 15 points and Bowling Green (11-11, 5-4 Mid-American Conference) used a big first half to rout Northern Illinois. Northern Illinois (2-19, 1-8) went without a double-digit scorer but Abdel Nader had 10 rebounds.

Cincinnati 74, DePaul 66: Dion Dixon and Sean Kilpatrick each scored 16 points and Cashmere Wright scored all 11 of his in the second half to help Cincinnati (16-7, 6-4) pull away from DePaul (11-11, 2-8) for a Big East win.

Women

Valparaiso 66, Cleveland State 48: Valparaiso senior Ashley Varner had a career-high 26 points and added 13 rebounds as the Crusaders won their first road Horizon League game of the season.

Varner has been struggling with shooting in recent games and scored more points on Saturday than she had in her final three contests combined.

"I didn't even realize how many I had, I was just focused on getting out of this slump," Varner said. "It's great to have a career-high, but that wasn't even something that was on my mind."

Tabitha Gerardot had 12 points and eight rebounds, while Ieva Jansone added a career-high 12 points for the Crusaders (6-16, 2-9). !~ Paul Oren
