No. 11 Michigan State beats Penn State
Draymond Green had 23 points and 12 rebounds and made some timely shots to help No. 11 Michigan State pull away from Penn State in a 77-57 win Wednesday night.
The Spartans (19-5, 8-3 Big Ten) are a game behind conference-leading and third-ranked Ohio State, setting up a big game Saturday on the road against the Buckeyes.
The last-place Nittany Lions (10-15, 2-10) have lost five straight and eight of nine.
Michigan State's Adreian Payne matched a career high with 12 points and freshman Branden Dawson, a Lew Wallace graduate, also had 12, scoring in double figures for the fifth straight game.
Tim Frazier scored 19 on 6-of-18 shooting for the Nittany Lions.
Michigan State's Keith Appling had 10 points and seven assists.
Reserve Jermaine Marshall scored 12 and Nick Colella added nine points for the Nittany Lions.
No. 2 Syracuse 64, No. 12 Georgetown 61: Kris Joseph scored a career-high 29 points, hitting a go-ahead 3-pointer in the final minute of overtime, and Syracuse (24-1, 11-1 Big East) beat Georgetown (18-5, 8-4) to give coach Jim Boeheim his 880th career win.
Boeheim took sole possession of third place all-time in Division I, one more than North Carolina's Dean Smith, but it wasn't easy against the Orange's rival.
No. 7 Kansas 68, No. 6 Baylor 54: Jeff Withey scored a career-high 25 points, and Kansas (19-5, 9-2 Big 12) went ahead to stay during a stretch without Thomas Robinson as the seventh-ranked Jayhawks had another convincing victory over Baylor (21-3, 8-3).
Boston College 64, No. 15 Florida State 60: Jordan Daniels scored a career-high 19 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Boston College (8-16, 3-7 ACC) to a victory over Florida State (16-7, 7-2) and snap the Atlantic Coast Conference-leading Seminoles' win streak at seven games.
No. 19 Virginia 68, Wake Forest 44: Mike Scott made all nine of his shots and scored 19 points to lead Virginia (19-4, 6-3 Atlantic Coast) to a win over Wake Forest (11-13, 2-8).
Bowling Green 61, Ball State 54: A'uston Calhoun had 27 points and nine rebounds, and Dee Brown hit back-to-back 3-pointers late in the game as Bowling Green (12-11, 6-4 Mid-American) defeated Ball State.
Jarrod Jones, a Michigan City graduate, had 14 points and eight rebounds for Ball State (12-10, 4-6), which has lost five straight games — and four in a row at home.
Women
No. 6 Miami 61, No. 22 North Carolina 37: Shenise Johnson scored 19 points, and Riquna Williams added 17 to lead Miami (21-3, 10-1 ACC) to a win over No. 22 North Carolina (17-7, 7-4 ACC).
No. 14 Georgetown 56, Seton Hall 51: Sugar Rodgers had 23 points and 11 rebounds to help Georgetown (19-5, 8-3 Big East) beat Seton Hall (7-18, 0-11).
No. 25 St. Bonaventure 69, Massachusetts 54: Megan Van Tatenhove and Armelia Horton scored 17 points each and St. Bonaventure (23-2, 10-0 Atlantic 10) tied a school single-season record for wins with a victory over Massachusetts (6-18, 1-8).
