No. 21 Wisconsin outlasts Minnesota
Jordan Taylor scored 27 points for his first college win in his home state, and No. 21 Wisconsin gutted out a 68-61 overtime victory at Minnesota on Thursday night.
The Badgers (19-6, 8-4 Big Ten) failed to score over the last 7½-plus minutes of the second half while the Gophers (17-8, 5-7) dug out of a 13-point hole. But that dogged Wisconsin defense came back in the overtime even though the Badgers' shooting touch didn't.
Ryan Evans had 17 points and 11 rebounds for Wisconsin, which went 15 for 17 from the free throw line in overtime.
No. 20 Mississippi St. 70, Mississippi 60: Arnett Moultrie scored 18 points, Dee Bost dished a career-high 13 assists, and Mississippi State (19-5, 6-3 Southeastern Conference) easily beat rival Mississippi (14-9, 4-5).
Butler 68, Youngstown State 59: Chrishawn Hopkins scored 19 points and Ronald Nored grabbed 11 rebounds as Butler took down Youngstown State in Horizon League play.
Jackson Aldridge added 15 and Roosevelt Jones 11 for the Bulldogs.
Butler (14-12, 8-6), who led throughout, took a 35-25 lead into halftime and pushed that lead to 14, 40-26, in the second half. Youngstown State rallied to cut the deficit to six, 51-45, with 6:14 left to play but Hopkins scored eight straight to put the Bulldogs back up by 12 and seal the win.
The Bulldogs shot 44.4 percent (21 of 54) from the field, hitting 5 of 16 3-point attempts in the process.
Kendrick Perry led Youngstown with 23 and Ashen Ward added 10 but the duo went a combined 2 for 10 from 3-point range.
Butler (13-11, 8-6) has won two if it's last three games.
Oral Roberts 76, IUPUI 74, OT: Roderick Pearson hit a short jumper at the buzzer to give Oral Roberts a overtime victory over IUPUI.
The Jaguars' Ian Chiles sank a free throw to tie it at 74 with 19 seconds left but missed the second. Oral Roberts worked it for the final shot, and Pearson's basket gave Oral Roberts its 21st straight home victory.
Dominique Morrison paced the Golden Eagles (22-5, 14-1 Summit League) with 23 points. Michael Craion, Warren Niles and Steven Roundtree scored 11 each.
Alex Young hit a career-high six 3-pointers, scoring 34 points for the Jaguars (10-16, 4-10). Christian Siakam and Stephen Thomas added 11 apiece.
With IUPUI down 65-61, Young converted a four-point play with 23 seconds to go, forcing overtime.
The Golden Eagles scored the first six points of OT, but Siakam cut it to 74-73 with 40 seconds left before Pearson ended it.
Women
Detroit 70, No. 9 Green Bay 58: Shareta Brown scored 24 points, and Senee Shearer added 23 to help Detroit stun Wisconsin-Green Bay, handing the Phoenix their first loss of the season.
The Titans (13-11, 9-3 Horizon League) snapped the Phoenix's (20-1, 10-1) 40-game regular season winning streak and ended their bid for a second straight perfect season in the Horizon.
Top-ranked Baylor is the only unbeaten team left in Division I women's basketball.
Illinois 66, No. 10 Ohio State 65: Alexis Moore made a game-winning layup with two seconds left to give Illinois (9-16, 3-9 Big Ten) a win over Ohio State (21-3, 8-3).
Adrienne Godbold led four Illini players in double figures with 16 points, and set up the win with a pair of free throws with 40 seconds left that gave Illinois a a 64-63 lead.
Michigan 63, No. 13 Nebraska 52: Carmen Reynolds matched her season high with 16 points, and Michigan (18-7, 7-5 Big Ten) capitalized on Nebraska's abysmal shooting to upset the Cornhuskers (19-4, 8-3).
No. 18 Penn State 69, Wisconsin 54: Maggie Lucas scored 16 points to help Penn State (19-5, 9-3 Big Ten) beat Wisconsin (8-16, 4-8).
