Purdue softball player Katie Mitchell (Lake Central) set the program's single-season home run record when she hit her 13th homer last Saturday against Michigan.

The sophomore broke Katie Crabtree's record set in 2000 and in 2002. Mitchell leads the Boilermakers in homers and RBIs (47).

Saint Xavier University right fielder Nicole Barker (Marian Catholic) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks.

The senior helped lead the Cougars to three conference victories, batting .600 (9-for-15) with a .933 slugging percentage over a four-game stretch.

Millikin sophomore Kristen Holtz (Marian Catholic) is batting .323 with seven stolen bases in nine attempts. She has started all 23 games for the Big Blue.

DePauw senior pitcher Lauren Curosh (Whiting) was named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, going 2-0 with six strikeouts and eight shutout innings.

For the season, Curosh is 12-0 with 60 strikeouts and a 2.25 ERA. The Tigers tied the school record wins with 31.

Baseball

Wabash College's Matt Dodaro (Lake Central) had three home runs on Sunday in a doubleheader loss to Ohio Wesleyan.

Dodaro has 51 hits -- five shy of tying the school single-season mark. He also has 13 doubles -- one short of tying the school single-season record. The sophomore shortstop leads the team with nine homers and 36 RBIs, and is second on the team in batting (.360). He is tied for the lead in triple (3).

Franklin College sophomore Jim Swienconek (Griffith) is hitting .351 with a team-leading four homers and 51 RBIs.

Swienconek has stolen 15 bases in as many attempts. The first baseman has a .974 fielding percentage.

Senior David Federoff (Portage) has 15 RBIs and is 5-for-5 in stolen bases. The third baseman/shortstop has an .871 fielding percentage.

Miami (Ohio) junior pitcher John Ely (Homewood-Flossmoor) was name Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 22.

Ely threw eight shutout innings and struck out nine in a 6-0 win over Kent State last Friday. It was his fifth MAC honor as he leads the RedHawks with a 6-2 record. He has 58 strikeouts and a 3.15 ERA.

Men's Track & Field

Wabash junior Bart Banach (Munster) won the 200 (22.39) and 400 (49.56) at last Friday's Rose Hulman Track & Field Twilight Invitational.

Junior Geoff Lambert (Chesterton) was third (49.96). Senior Dennis Frazee (Calumet) was fourth in the steeplechase (10:12.98). Sophomore Brent Banach (Munster) was sixth in the discus (136 feet, 7 inches) and sophomore Bobby Kimp (Bishop Noll) was fourth in the 100 (11.79).

University of Illinois high jumper Greg Shroka (Hanover Central) had an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 6 feet, 10 3/4 inches at the Mike Poehlein Invitational at Purdue.

Women's Track & Field

Iowa junior Racheal Marchand (Valparaiso) has qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:40.27. She was third in the 3,000 (9:45.50) at last weekend's Musco Twilight IX meet.

Women's Tennis

Murray State senior Casady Pruitt (Merrillville) was named to the Ohio Valley Conference's second-team.

Pruitt was named to the OVC team in 2004.
