August 29, 2012 8:00 pm

St. Joseph's (0-0) at Valparaiso (0-0)

When: 7 p.m. today.

Where: Brown Field.

Radio: WAKE-AM (1500).

Valparaiso will win if: The Crusaders can get the offense going early and often. Valparaiso scored more points in the second half than the first last season and often when the games were already decided. If quarterback Eric Hoffman can get the offense moving early and put some points on the board, adrenaline and morale could carry the Crusaders to the finish line.

St. Joseph's will win if: Quarterback Billy VandeMerkt continues to carve up the competition. The junior quarterback has thrown for more than 2,500 yards in his collegiate career, and he'll be facing a secondary that surrendered more than 260 yards per game last season.

Notes: The Pumas lead the all-time series 33-28-2 and hold a five-game winning streak dating back to 2001. ... Tonight's contest will be just the third game ever played under the lights at Brown Field and the first Thursday night home game at the facility. ... Punter Greg Wood (First Team) and linebacker Pat Derbak (Second Team) were both honored as All-PFL selections in Phil Steele's 2012 FCS College Football Preview. !~  Paul Oren
