Valparaiso (0-3, 0-0) at San Diego (1-2, 0-0)
When: 3 p.m. today.
Where: At Torero Stadium, San Diego.
Radio/Internet: WAKE-AM (1500)/valpoathletics.com.
Valparaiso will win if: The Crusaders can replicate their effort in the first quarter against Duquesne for all four quarters against San Diego. Valparaiso scored 17 points in the first quarter last Saturday, the most since hitting that mark against the Toreros in 2007, but failed to find the end zone again for the rest of the game. The Crusaders have to be able to adapt to any defensive changes the Toreros make during the game.
San Diego will win if: It can exploit a banged-up Valparaiso secondary and make plays over the top of the defense. San Diego quarterback Mason Mills averages 265 yards per game and has completed 63 percent of his passes. If Mills is finding his receivers, namely Brandon White, it could be a long day for the Crusaders.
Notes: This will be the 20th meeting between the teams, with San Diego holding a 14-5 all-time edge, including a 55-14 victory last season. ... The Toreros have won the last eight meetings against Valparaiso. ... San Diego was named the Pioneer Football League favorites this season. ... Valparaiso and Davidson have yet to win a game this season, while every PFL team has lost at least one contest during the nonconference slate. !~ Paul Oren
