Who's Back: While much has been made during the offseason about the players who have moved on from the program, the Crusaders still return several key contributors. Horizon League Sixth Man of the Year LaVonte Dority will step into a starting role this season after averaging 8.6 points in 25 games last season. Former Indiana transfer Bobby Capobianco is expected to build on a solid first season in which the forward averaged 5.9 points and 4.6 rebounds in a reserve role. Jordan Coleman and Vashil Fernandez should also see expanded roles with the Crusaders this season.

Who's New: Bryce Drew brought in a recruiting class with local flavor this season. Five of the seven newcomers (and all of the freshmen) come from either Indiana or Illinois, including Andrean product Nick Davidson. Alec Peters and Clay Yeo (Triton) are expected to provide the biggest impact among the true newcomers this season along with Alabama transfer Moussa Gueye. Drew has had stretches in the first two exhibition games where he has played five newcomers on the court together and that may continue into the regular-season.

Outlook: The Crusaders may not three-peat as Horizon League champions, but they likely will finish higher than their sixth-place preseason projection. Valparaiso may suffer some growing pains in the early stages of the season, but once St. Louis transfer Keith Carter becomes eligible and the freshmen get some experience under their belts, the Crusaders could be prime to surprise some people during conference play. With Bryce Drew at the helm for a third year, a good deal of success may not be a surprise after all.
