Gary's Brandon Moore chosen for first Pro Bowl in Hawaii
You're going to hate Brandon Moore.
The New York Jets right guard, a West Side grad, spent Saturday with his family on the beach in Hawaii, resting up for today's NFL Pro Bowl.
It's the first appearance for the nine-year veteran, who was filling in for Brian Waters, of the Super Bowl-bound New England Patriots.
None of the Patriots or New York Giants who had been chosen made the trip, for obvious reasons.
Super Bowl XLVI is Feb. 5 in Indianapolis.
"I was a second alternate this year and last," said Moore, whose 121 consecutive starts lead all guards. "You can go your whole career, be productive and never make it to the Pro Bowl. It definitely feels good to get this accomplishment.
"It's an individual award, but a lot of people have to help you look good on Sunday. I'm just happy my family and my parents are enjoying it out here, even on short notice."
Joining Moore are his parents, Brenda and Julius, along with wife Regina and children Mikayla, 4, and Isiah, 19 months.
The NFL does not pay for players' families, but Moore gladly footed the bill to bring his over.
"They've never been to Hawaii, so they're enjoying it big time," he said. "Right now, I'm on the beach looking at the waves. It's about 80 degrees."
