Indiana Prep Report: Mattocks earns honor, lifts Bombers to girls basketball win
Prep report
Allie Mattocks scored a game-high 21 points and added five steals to lead Rensselaer to a 45-39 girls basketball win over Calumet on Tuesday.
It was the third straight win for the Bombers (7-4).
Alyssa Nieto had a team-high 13 points for the Warriors (7-4).
On Monday, Mattocks won Indiana Fever Player of the Week for District 1. The 5-foot-8 senior guard averaged 30.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals in leading the Bombers to wins over South Newton and Sheridan last week. On Saturday she had a career-high 35 points and a school-record seven 3-pointers against Sheridan.
Boys Basketball
Wheeler 74, Marquette 29: Nigel Mims had a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds as the Bearcats (4-1, 2-1) trounced the Blazers (1-4, 0-3) in Greater South Shore Conference action.
Najee Bailey added 24 points and four steals for the Bearcats (4-1, 2-1).
Dominic Fumo had a team-high eight points for the Blazers (1-4, 0-3).
Kankakee Valley 60, Knox 51 (OT): Cody Nelms scored six of his game-high 22 points in the extra period as the Kougars (2-6) edged the Redskins (2-4). Evan DeKock added 14 points, while Evan Dahm had 11.
Rensselaer 57, Tri-County 54: Ben Davisson had 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Bombers (6-2) over the Cavaliers (2-4). Clayton Weishaar added 11 points and eight boards.
Oregon-Davis 88, North Newton 78: Cody Balog and Kyle Mark each scored 11 points in the Spartans' loss. Zach Richie poured in 49 for the Bobcats.
Boys Swimming
Michigan City 129, Hobart 38: Matt Quinlan won the 100 free, 200 IM and was on the winning 200 medley relay team as the Times No. 5 Wolves won every event in beating the Brickies.
Rensselaer 146, Gavit 39: Nathaniel Graves (100 fly, 200 free) and Casey Hooker (100 back, 500 free) each won two individual events as the No. 10 Bombers defeated the Gladiators.
Girls Swimming
Michigan City 134, Hobart 54: Jaymie Pliskey won the 200 free and 100 fly to lead the No. 7 Wolves past the Brickies.
Pliskey was also on the winning 200 medley and 200 free relay teams as Michigan City won 10 events.
Rensselaer 173, Gavit 67, South Newton 57: Casey Boose won the 200 free and 500 free to lead the Bombers to a triangular victory over the Gladiators and Rebels.
Wrestling
Hobart 60, Lake Station 8: The No. 6 Brickies won eight matches by pin to defeat the Eagles. Justin Iano (119 pounds), Tony Vasquez (135), Alex Metz (140), Zach Neyhart (145), Tony Morales (152), Tony Rodriguez (160), Joe Peco (189) and Gerald Valenzuela (Hwt.) each won by fall.

C.P.'s Amodeo signs at Ferris State: Crown Point senior softball player Allison Amodeo recently signed her national letter of intent to continue her playing career for the Ferris State Bulldogs. Amodeo batted .433 last spring for C.P., which included six doubles and had 11 RBIs for the Bulldogs.
"Ali will give us options defensively with the speed to play in the outfield and the quickness to cover ground on the infield," said Ferris State coach Keri Becker.
