Any time a job promotion comes along it's good news. But on Monday night the upgrade that Tony Bartolomeo received couldn't have come at a better time.
They say it's good to strike when the iron is hot.
Bartolomeo was voted in as Lake Central's new athletic director. He replaces Robin Tobias, who has moved up to principal at the school.
"I met him today and he seems like a great guy," Lake Central softball coach Jeff Sherman said on Tuesday night.
The Indians' programs had breakout seasons in multiple sports during the 2011-12 academic year. L.C.'s football program won a share of its first Duneland Athletic Conference title last fall. L.C.'s boys basketball team won its first sectional championship since 1997 in March.
And the Indians baseball program won the Class 4A state championship in June.
Bartolomeo graduated from Merrillville. He was an assistant football coach at Merrillville, Crown Point and Munster, where he worked with Tobias. He has been an assistant principal at Chesterton Middle School most recently.
"I sent him a text today to congratulate him," Munster football coach Leroy Marsh said. "Tony did a great job coaching with me for several years and I'm sure he'll do a good job at Lake Central."
Attempts to reach Tobias and Bartolomeo were unsuccessful on Tuesday night.
