GARY | Andrean hasn't allowed a run through four games, but that doesn't mean Morton didn't have its chances Wednesday.

The Times No. 2 59ers squeaked by the Governors 2-0 in the second day of the Railcats High School Challenge at U.S. Steel Yard. Morton left 10 runners on base, at least one in each inning.

"(The shutout streak) has been mentioned, but we're trying not to think about it,"starting pitcher Jimmy Tarala said. "I'm surprised that's still going, especially with this game we had (Wednesday)."

The Governors also took nine walks.

"I had a lot of walks and to come out with a shutout, that's amazing," Tarala said. "It was good defense by the infielders, double plays and just trying to get over it and not let that get you down."

Andrean (4-0) did all the scoring in the first inning. Matt DeSomer scored Joey Plesac with a double in the first. DeSomer crossed the plate a few pitches later when he stole third and the throw went into right field.

Morton (2-3) struggled on the base paths, being picked off twice and making several mental errors. Sam Miller was forced out at second base on a throw from left fielder Jamie Johnson in the fourth.

"(Mistakes) are going to happen. We know we've got a young team out there," Governors coach Scott Lush said."We had our chances there but just couldn't get a run across."

Later that inning, the Governors loaded the bases but Andrean hurler Jimmy Tarala got Greg Jayzk to ground into an inning-ending 3-6-1 double play.

"It was good thing that (first baseman David) Cox got it and fielded it cleanly so that we had time," Tarala said. "I got over there in time to make the double play."

Morton starter Aurelio Cazeras found a groove after the first inning and went the distance.

"He's our ace and obviously he's going to be pitching against all the good teams," Lush said. "I see a lot of good things from him."
