GARY | Lowell's notches in the win column have been harder to find this year.

But the Red Devils have stayed close game after game.

Friday night finally went Lowell's way as sophomore Danny DeBoer nailed down the Red Devils' first win of the season, a 5-4 victory over Bishop Noll in eight innings at the RailCats High School Challenge.

With Lowell (1-7) trailing 4-3 in the top of the seventh with one out, DeBoer scored Nick Schaaf on a RBI groundout.

"It felt nice to get that run in," DeBoer said. "I just did what I could."

But more importantly, he came in relief of Jimmy Szafranski and pitched three shutout innings to earn himself the win.

"I just threw strikes and my team stepped up behind me," said DeBoer, who didn't allow any hits.

Not to be outdone, catcher Bryan Thomas hit a double in the eighth, driving in Austin Magley, who walked to start the inning, as the go-ahead run in .

"It's nice to have things go our way," Lowell coach Bobby Wong said. "Every other game, except for Andrean, we have been right there. DeBoer was right around the plate."

Noll (2-5), who led until the fateful eighth, put up three runs in the fifth, but let it slip away by giving up three runs in the previous inning.

"We deserve to lose that one for letting them off the hook," Bishop Noll coach Paul Wirtz said. "They did a good job of throwing strikes, but we can't let these games go."
