ST. JOHN | Lake Central got its revenge.

The Times No. 2 Indians only loss of the season came at the hands of Chesterton and starter Jake Post on April 24.

On Tuesday, L.C. touched up Post for five runs en route to an 8-1 win over the Trojans that clinched a Duneland Conference title.

"The kids were dying to see Jake Post again. They got him and they had a pretty good day against him," Indians coach Jeff Sandor said.

Post and Lake Central starter Taylor Lehnert cruised through the first three innings before Lake Central opened things up in the fourth when Chesterton had trouble fielding a ball off the bat of Anthony Fushi.

"I think we could've held the runner at third. Who knows what the next guy does," Trojan coach Jack Campbell said. "(Post) may have gotten out of the fifth inning and been OK."

Instead, the Indians pushed across the first two runs of the game.

"We had some revenge to get," Ryan Burvan said. "It feels really good."

Sandor said the North Central tournament last weekend prepared his team for Post.

"We've seen three straight righties that are overpowering," Sandor said. "By the time you get to the third one it's just like seeing another arm."

L.C. (23-1, 12-1), atop the 4A state coaches poll after spending two weeks at No. 2, added three runs in the fifth and sixth innings, as well. The final three were charged to Chesterton reliever Kevin Jones.

Burvan had a double that brought in two runs in the fifth inning. The junior has been swinging a hot bat since turning a sacrifice bunt into a hit Thursday against Valparaiso. He'd been slumping before that.

"I'm just relaxing," Burvan said. "I was thinking too much early in my slump. Now, I'm just pretty much seeing the ball and hitting it."

Campbell gave credit to the Indians' hurler.

"Lehnert's a good pitcher," he said. "He's a really good. There's a reason he's going to pitch in college."
