CALUMET CITY | When T.F. North leadoff hitter Bill Wilson gets on base, good things happen for the Meteors.
Wilson was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs to help lead the Meteors to a 8-1 victory over Julian in the opening round of the T.F. North Regional. Francisco Galvan picked up the win for the Meteors, striking out 13 with one unearned run in the complete game. Galvan also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored as a hitter.
"We haven't really been hitting lately," Wilson said. "So our emphasis was hitting at the plate and being aggressive. After the third inning, I think everybody started getting in and swinging at the ball and playing small ball, and we started putting up runs."
Wilson, Galvan, and Paul Bomba scored in the third inning to give T.F. North the 3-0 lead. Julian answered back with one run in the fourth but that was all the offense Galvan would give up. The Meteors added three more runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to move on in the regional.
"I was just trying to spot it down and hard," Galvan said. "The same as every game, we just need to stay deep. For guys like that who are slower on the mound you have to stay deep. If you get ahead, you're not going to hit."
T.F. North will face Illiana Christian today at 4 p.m. in the first regional semi-final. The Meteors lost 7-0 earlier in the season to the Vikings, and T.F. North coach Mike Kosiara knows what it will take for his team to have success going forward in the tournament.
"We've got to hit," Kosiara said. "When we played them earlier in the season we got three hits. We made some mental errors out in the field and we had our errors. But we've been playing some good baseball. We have to jump on them tomorrow."
