Breakdown
Knights will be balanced
First-year coach Randy Wiesner, who formerly coached at LaLumiere, inherits a good group that is willing to learn and strive to get better. Five seniors return to give the Knights some experience, but most only saw limited action on last year‘s squad. Caleb Herrema and Jason Kickert saw significant varsity action, and Wiesner wants to get more players involved this season. “We‘re going to have an eight-man rotation where everybody who is not a senior is going to play at least one quarter on JV,” he said. “Some are going to play two quarters. We want to make sure the minutes are there.” Herrema and Kickert will lead the way along with Sean Williams, who played well before being sidelined by an injury. “Once the season starts progressing, we’re going to be a pretty strong team,“ Herrema said. How well the young players develop will be the key to the Knights‘ success. “They’re picking things up very quick, and they seem to be getting better every single day,” Wiesner said. “They’re smart and they have a desire to get better. The talent is there. It’s just getting them to be fundamentally sound and to know the game.” — Christopher Breach
