Inside the Bulldogs
Leading returning scorer: Tommy Bardeson, 17 ppg
Leading returning rebounder: Bardeson, 4.8 rpg
Star power: Tommy Bardeson, Sr., G. Northwestern is recruiting the talented player. His skill set has always been good, but his ability to lead and find his teammates on the floor has improved.
Newcomer to watch: Bret Barclay, Jr., F. Barclay is talented, and his drive to keep improving is off the charts. Strong and fierce, this power forward can score around the hoop and look you in the eye while he's doing it. Hates to lose.
Breakdown
Crown Point boasts size, potential
This team is young and huge. Coach Clint Swan has six players 6-foot-5 or taller and four are underclassmen. The question mark, like last year, will be whether the 'Dogs can get the play at the point guard position to make a difference. Tommy Bardeson will spend time at the point. But the four underclassmen skyscrapers — Nick Jeffirs, Bret Barclay, Rade Kukobat and Noah Burkholder — will tower over most teams. "A lot of our guys really want to win," C.P. coach Clint Swan said. "In the first couple of days of practice this group has practiced harder than any team I've had here." This team is very athletic, but taking care of the basketball will be issue No. 1. Last winter C.P. won seven consecutive games at the end before losing twice to Chesterton. The sectional loss, 83-57, still stings. — Steve Hanlon
