Newcomer to watch: Joey Claussen, So., F. Claussen gives the Bombers another big body in the post and should provide scoring and rebounding.
Bombers counting on youth movement
After a season that saw the Bombers struggle mightily, they’re hoping an infusion of youth will reinvigorate the program. Fourth-year coach Kevin Sims is hoping a talented sophomore class will pay dividends on the court. “Our sophomore group is a good group, there’s no question about that, and it’s got a lot of depth,” he said. “They’re going to be counted on heavily to fill a bunch of minutes for us because we lost a ton of experience.” The Bombers return four seniors, three of whom will start in talented post player Dane Brooks and wing men Ryan Lattimore and Braden Mattocks. Six sophomores dot the roster, including starters Bryce Deno and Joey Claussen. “They’re young but they’re not bashful. They’ll get after it,” Brooks said. Sims said his sophomores might take some time to develop to be competitive. “They feel like their time is now,” he said. “If they can meet the challenge of a varsity schedule physically, they’ll compete well.”
