Bearcats build around trio
Christian Sikoski (13.9 ppg), the would-be returning leading scorer and rebounder, transferred to Trader's Point Academy, but the Bearcats had all summer to adjust. They will build around the experienced trio of Jeremy Truchan, Kevin Barnes and Austin Greiner. "We don't have a big 6-8 post or a 6-5 wing," coach Tom Johnson said. "One thing about those three is they're all able to play multiple positions. We can get them the ball in different situations. They can score, find the open guy and defend in a multitude of ways." Otherwise, there are plenty of unknowns. "In some ways, it's a little like last year," Johnson said. "They understand we're going to have to be patient. It's going to take a while for the pieces to fall together. But they've worked really hard, they play well together and they really like to share the ball. Last year, we didn't have anybody pushing anybody after seven or eight (guys). We've got a group of 10 or 11 competing for varsity time." Alex Asher, James Miller and Alexsa Todorovic will handle the inside on a team lacking size. Johnson firmly believes in the carryover effect from season to season, with Truchan and Jason Graf (football), Greiner, Drew Heinold (tennis) and Asher (soccer). "Since the summer, I've really seen some improvement and I think a lot of it has to do with the success they had in their fall sports," he said. !~ Jim Peters
